Project

This stunning waterfront complex is located in the beautiful Discovery Islands group in the mid coast of British Colombia. A private island with multiple amenities and buildings has been on-going since 2021. Our current work is at the Beach House, a design build project lead by Nigel Walker. It’s intended use is for entertaining guests, hosting games nights, and waterfront dining events all while taking in the glorious views on offer in this unique setting. Featuring an open floor plan and floor to ceiling glazing, occupants feel connected to the water and the dramatic shoreline. The structure houses a fuel storage facility that has been built at sea level.

The challenge for Coast as Construction Manager was to complete the project on a compressed schedule from October through June, including execution of the concrete foundation work in the wet, cold, windy conditions of November/December. Logistically this remote location presents many barriers to manpower and materials procurement as everything had to be brought in by barge on a 2 hour trip. To date, the project has successfully poured more than 300 m3 of concrete using methods developed by the Coast team to batch and mix concrete and then pump all directly from the barges. The steel superstructure is significant and was designed to achieve maximum spans with full span fenestration systems fitting with micro precision, all of which was calculated, coordinated and procured without the benefit of field measurements by the Coast Team. A testament to the experience and dedication of Coast team members sharing in the success of the project.
